Our host was quick to respond, made extra effort to organize and ensure we got the keys.

I did not expect much of this place considering the low price. The only thing I did expect, though, was cleanliness and it did NOT deliver. I have traveled quite a bit in my life in over 30 countries and have litterally stayed in hundreds of budget places and I would have to say that this apartment was in my top 3 filthiest places, along with a 3$/night room in Trivandrum, India and a 15$/night in Sittwe, Myanmar. This place was truly disgusting with brownish streaks on the walls, dirty floors, filthy bathtub, hairfilled towels, sticky plates, dirty microwave and oven, hair in the freezer. And believe me, this was not dirty because of the previous guests. That kind of filth has been there for such a long time that someone would have to scrape it off. Also, the boxspring and futon were wrecked, the door handle would come off everytime we tried to close the door, so would one of the knobs in the tub and the one to flush the toilet. One of the locks on the door was completely unscrewed and, of the three possible lightbulbs in the bathroom, one was missing and one was burned out. Finally, the tile in the bathroom is starting to come off. Needless to say that I would not recommend this place to anyone.
