THIS IS A SHARE and you will be staying with my wife and I unless other arrangements have been made. We stay in the back sleeping loft, which you can barely see in the first photo. If you want the entire loft for yourself, please let me know and be clear on the dates. The roomrate will be higher if you want the entire loft.
Trendy, clean and modern loft with second floor bedroom with a full-height queen sized air bed for those travelers wishing to live like a local and be steps away from Broadway. Take advantage of the Broadway lotteries where you pay $20 for the best seats in the house. Only those staying nearby can take full advantage of these deals. This apartment is close to the center of the universe - Times Square, and is two blocks away from the 1/2/3/7/9/A/C/E/N/Q/R/S/W subway lines but is a quiet oasis away from the hustle and bustle. I frequently work from home and have lived in NYC for over 20 years, so if you have a need for a NYC guide, this is your best bet!
The room you will get on the second floor to the right in the second photo. Heavy curtains section off your room from the rest of the apartment. So while you will get your own room, there will be sound leaks. While you will be sharing the loft with us, we only rent to one party at a time. When in the apartment, you will get free access to wifi and free calls to anywhere in the domestic U.S. and Canada.
The eating is great on Ninth Avenue (dubbed International Food Avenue) but if you would like to have breakfast or dinner with us, you are welcome to. The apartment has three queen sized beds and a single bed (perfect for three couples and a single). Although three night stays or longer are preferred, if you want to stay less nights, a $75 per night cleaning surcharge will be added.
The cost is per night for the first couple and then $100 for each additional person per night. If you want the apartment cleaned while you are staying in it, there will be an additional $75 per cleaning charge. Dogs are welcome (we raised a seeing eye dog) and we were bonded pet sitters, so if you've got a pup, this is your best bet to be able to bring your dog and yet feel like s/he's well cared for while you experience NYC.

Thanks very much to Iris and Alastair! They are really great people with huge hearts and we enjoyed meeting them very much. We had some really interesting conversations on a lot of different topics and I feel pretty sure that our paths will cross again at some point. We had a wonderful time in the Big Apple, and Alastair was helpful with suggestions, from good dinner places to clubs to helping us book our shuttle to the airport. The legendary breakfasts are worthy of their legend - it was a wonderful was to start the day - and kept us going until lunchtime, even the kids! You can really tell that Alastair loves to cook breakfast and his creativity delivers delicious results. Staying with Alastair & Iris is probably even nicer if you are a smaller party - we could not watch TV or really talk after the 4 kids had gone to bed because a) some were sleeping right by the TV on the fold-out couch and b) the noise would have woken them up. But for 2-4 people, this would not be a factor and you'd have the living room to use entirely. It may also be important to know in advance that there is only one bathroom. Amazingly, it did not cause any problems - but if a large group is staying (or people who are not very close friends or family), it may be tight. One very nice thing is how quiet the apartment is - we used to live in NYC and I had never slept somewhere in the city that had such little street noise. The fingerprint lock is also very practical - and fun to use! No keys to lose and you feel like you're in Mission Impossible every time you come home :-) Thanks again for a really great time, Al & Iris - and hope to see you in Switzerland sometime!

We are eternally grateful for Alistair sharing his space with us in New York. A great location and a fantastic host. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Alistair, the space was great and the host impeccable. Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us we would without hesitation recommend you and your space to others wanting to experience a piece of New York.

We had a great time with Alastair and his wife Iris. Alastair got us tickets to a great show that we otherwise would never have heard of, was entertaining and informative and made great breakfasts. The location is very close to Times Square for theatre and just a couple of blocks to the trails at the Hudson for those looking for a little green relief from the city. It can be a little noisy, but it's New York, and the city doesn't sleep.

Assolutamente consigliato.

We (2 brothers with their 75 year young dad) stayed for 5 days and had a great time. From the beginning we felt totally welcome and Alastair and Iris were the best hosts! The appartment has a ideal location and is very cosy. It felt like a home away from home. It's a homestay and the rooms are seperated by curtains, but we never had the feeling of being intruders in a home and we had enough privacy. The breakfasts Alastair makes are a absolute plus and the breakfasttable is so much nicer then a hotel!! To be short, excellent hosts, excellent location, excellent appartment and superduper breakfasts make for an unforgetteable stay at the loft and in New York! My 75 year old dad had the time of his life! Thanks to Alastair and the Loft!!!

I have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Being so close to Time Square, we passed through it almost every day. Elaine can speak for herself. I wondered about living so close to the action but it was no drawback at all. Alastair and Iris were very accommodating. We arose when we wanted and had grate breakfasts served to start a good day. Alastair wnt out of his way to get tickets to Broadway shows where where there were supposedly no tickets to be had. He saved us time and huge amounts of money. I would recommend this loft because it was comfy, the hosts were very helpful, and the location was ideal. Alastair was very open to suggestions and even learned a little about his city from our accidental wanderings by the river. We were intrepid and adventurous because Alastair and Iris made us feel safe and sure about where we were going. If I could suggest one thing, get a Metro pass like Alastair says but get the maps for it right away. Have fun like we did.

We had a really wonder time staying with Alistair and Iris, they were really great hosts from the time of reservation up to our last day in NYC. Breakfast was really good and satisfying and there's nothing quite like waking up to the smell of eggs, toast and bacon in the morning. Al's advice on navigating the city was really useful for first time commuters like us and he also gave us tons of dining suggestions. Overall it was a home away from home experience. My only issues where the streets that never sleep at night but I guess that's all part of the NYC experience!

We had a wonderful stay in New York thanks to Al and Iris who are wonderful hosts. Because we didn't read thoroughly the ad, we were at first desappointed not to have the appartment only for us, since we were with our baby. But Al's delicious breakfasts and his great advices about the city completely changed our minds. Don't hesitate to choose to stay at the trendy loft! Although we dind't have a lot of privacy with the curtains, we enjoyed the appartment. We will keep a very nice memory of this week in New York. The location is perfect to walk around Manhattan. Thanks to Al, we discovered some of the best restaurants in town. Al is such an open and interesting guy, it was wonderful to meet him and his nice wife Iris. We hope to come back to NY one day and see them again, or even meet them in Paris where they often travel to!
Lacristina August 24, 2011
Very nice welcome from Alastair and delicious breakfast! Kids felt like at home. Very good position as the loft is 510- minuts walking from Times Square in a safe area. Forget about keys: just use your finger to get into the loft!

Those days were definitly great ! Tanks to Alastair and his advices and his kindness ! Such a beautifull place to live such beautifull holidays ! The best...

Im definitely coming back to NY and stay at Al's loft. It was amazing, cozy bigger than what I was expecting and even though was raining for the whole entire day, we had so much fun. Al thank you so much for being an excellent host, my family went back to Mexico very happy and we loved your breakfast, even the picky one :) i will definitely see u soon.

Alastair and his sweet wife Iris have made our vacation a unique and unrepeatable experience. The loft is fantastic, spacious, clean and with all the necessary facilities. Fundamental for us were the councils that Alastair has given us every day to visit the city. Also very good breakfast that Alastair has prepared us every morning, he's a great cook! As a host Alastair is faultless, his breakfasts are to die for and they will totally set you up for a day of shopping and sight-seeing. He is also a really nice guy, genuinely interested in people, and all of us enjoyed chatting with him over coffee in the mornings (and the occasional vodka in the evening!). Alastair and Iris opened their home to us unreservedly and made us feel very welcome. They have a very cool fingerprint recognition entry system to the loft which eliminates any risk of losing keys. One thing I would say is that, like every NYC apartment I've seen, the loft is smaller than it looks in the photos. It's also less minimal in style than it appears in pictures, it's actually much more chaotic but in a homely, lived-in sort of way. At first I thought it was going to be a bit of a squeeze for our party (4 adults and 1 child), especially since we'd be sharing with the hosts, but it all tuned out to be fine. And... you can actually rent out the entire space at a higher rate if you want. The street, by New York standards at least, is relatively quiet considering the open-plan guest accommodation is spread between the ground and 1st floor levels. However the loft is located next door to the fire department and the truck leaves nightly in blaze of lights, sirens and horns. Yeah it's noisy but that's New York for you!

Alastair and his wife were fantastic hosts and did a great job of making us feel right at home. (They even made us waffles and tea!) Our rental was under unusual circumstances -long story- and they were patient and extremely accommodating! We'll be sure to use their space again if it's available the next time we need it. Fingers crossed!
Little_miss_m_5 May 05, 2011
Alastair and Iris were lovely hosts, with lots of useful information and also great to just chat to. Breakfast was amazing every day! And the place is really nice and conveniently located.
Clotte44 April 28, 2011
Our stay in NYC was amazing, thanks to our hosts, Alastair and Iris. Even if we had to share a loft all together (the 5 of us + our two hosts), everything was well organized and we didn't feel cramped up at all! Alastair and his wife are both really nice and they put us at ease as soon as we got there. The loft was clean, we all had our private quarters. We had the chance to eat breakfast, cooked by Alastair, and it was pretty good! Furthermore, the loft is well located, everything is close. Thanks again for your generosity (especially for the 30th birthday cake!! :))
Nlopez3 April 25, 2011
Our stay with Alastair and Iris was wonderful. They welcomed us in their home and made us feel very comfortable. His "kick ass" breakfast was fantastic. Our small dogs were welcomed to stay with us in their home. They took wonderful care of them in our absence, taking them to the dog park. We would highly recommend Trendy Loft. We had a wonderful time in NY.

STAY HERE!! THANK ME LATER. For the ultimate New York experience, you would be a fool to look past this place. For people on holidays(like me and 3 of my friends), the first thing that stood out about this place was its location. Literally a 2-3minute walk to Time Square! Alistair is one of the most humble individuals I have ever met. He really makes you feel right at home! Iris is also a very welcoming person. Alistair is a never ending source of information - this really helped us in getting the full NYC experience. Alistair knew of all the good places to shop, eat & drink! This information is priceless for people in NYC for the first time. Ontop of all that.... Alistair cooked us an AMAZING BREAKFAST EVERYDAY!! (4 guys staying for 5 nights) this was quite a surprise as it was not quoted in the price for the room. These breakfasts were incredible....INCREDIBLE! I would have no hesitation ins recommending this place to friends and family. I would live at the loft if given a chance!!! Me and my 3 friends will be forever indebted to Alistair for making our NYC visit truly unforgettable. Cheers Alistair !!!!

If you want your own personal concierge while in NYC this is the place to be! Alastair and Iris bring so much value beyond just having a place to rest your weary head in the evening. If you need to know the most efficient way to get around the city subways and travel point to point ... ask Alastair. If you need tickets to broadway shows (discounted and some of the best seats in the house) --- ask Alastair. If you want to visit the main attractions and avoid the crowds ... ask Alastair the best times to go. Photo opportunities ... ask Alastair. The best places to eat at very reasonable prices ... ask Alastair. After a while it's easy to lose track of all of the little extras that Alastair and Iris provide (the cups of home made hot chocolate in the evening, the rare Chinese tea that was a favorite of our son Brandon, the bagels and cream cheese (and homemade banana bread) that were waiting for us on our 6 am excursion to Central Park for sunrise photo ops, printing of our boarding passes etc.). Oh, and the things you might take for granted ... clean accommodations, fresh towels, hot showers, etc.... well perfect. My wife, myself and our 17 year old teenage son just had a great time ... after just a short period of time you feel more like good friends and not "guests" ... soon you will find yourself sharing stories of life (and Alastair has plenty of them) ... so, from Doug, Monica and Brandon are we can say is THANKS to Alastair and iris for making our visit SUPER!!!

Wow, what an amazing stay. Like one of the other guests we were a little uncomfortable about sharing the appt (43rd st) with the hosts especially as there are only curtains separating the room spaces. However, within hours, we too felt that we were at the home of friends or family. Al and Iris managed to be perfect hosts, providing fantastic breakfasts, advice, ticketing service without being intrusive. Quite a skill. It was always lovely to come home at the end of a busy day in the city to share our stories and adventures with them and vice versa. The whole experience was without a shadow of a doubt enhanced by the fact that we stayed with Al and Iris ,who were there for four days out of our ten day trip. Thank you so much!!

Really saw New York life as New Yorkers (or so we think)! Alistair and Iris helped us alll the way with info on places to see, things to do, plays to enjoy and expad our minds, eateries, etc. The location of their place is wonderful (as they say in real estate - Location Location Location!). 3-4 blocks from Times Square, near the Intrepid (which we did not have time in our agenda to do - Next time!), and great places to eat. Wonderful hosts, that have traveled the world and can talk about anything! They really save us a lot of time and energy - welll worth the money (breakfast was included as well!)!!! Way better than an apartment to ourselves! Meg and Margaret

We're a French family (2 adults and 3 kids) and we spent a wonderful time (9 days) in New York, lot due to Iris and Alastair. They're really friendly and helpful, always trying to answer to all our requests. Thanks to them, we felt secure and cool. The loft (without any real bedroom) is very well situated (10 min. walking from Time Square).

I booked this place for my parents, and they had a fantastic stay at the Loft. The location is great, and you can literally get to anywhere in the city very easily, also easily get across the water to NJ, and Grand Central is just up the road. 9th Avenue is also fantastic for restaurants and bars. Despite being in such a prime location (2 blocks from Times Square) there was barely any road noise in the loft. You have your own entrance, so it is great if you want some privacy and still be in the middle of everything. The loft itself is very spacious, and the layout is modern and cool! Alastair is very approachable, and any time we had questions he got back to us very quickly despite being on vacation. We didn't get the chance to have his famous breakfast, and look forward to trying that next time we stay at the loft! You can't go wrong with this place. Thanks Alastair!

Alaster and Iris are a wonderful youg couple. They are very friendly, they make you at ease like at home. they help you to find and go to the places you are interested to visit, give very good advices, and help you evrey day. Their loft is a wonderful experience, for those who are acustumed to live in traditional houses. It is very clean, lighty, well situated, ten minutes walking fromTimes Square and the big avenues of Manhatan. Their street is quiet. You cannot find better because they are the BEST!!!

Great host and great area. Got amazing feedback regarding the location and would love to go there again!
Kvenden June 26, 2009
Both apartments were absolutley great. I stayed at 82nd street and 43rd street west and absolutley loved it! The locations were great and the apartments absolutley impecable! Thank you so much again for making my stay even more enjoyable :)The only serious complaint I have is that the waterbed at 43rd west almost ruined my back...haha.
Peperosas June 18, 2009
I really had a great and very funny experience. Alastair and his wife are a very helpful couple!!! They made us a delicious breakfast every morning! Their apartment is very confortable and is located in one of the best zone of Manhattan(Broadway/TimeSquare). Thank you very much and I hope to return soon!

My husband and I stayed with Alastair and Iris last December. We had a wonderful weekend in the city! We thought we would be crashing in a strange apartment but the next morning, as we sat around the kitchen table over breakfast, (totally unexpected and DELICIOUS!!!)we realized we were in the home of new friends. The care and thoughtfulness of our hosts was incredible and added so much to our NYC experience! The location of this apartment is super convenient too...we walked to a Broadway show (39 Steps)and were minutes to the metro to access the rest of the city. There were many nice restaurants and fun to be had in the neighborhood, and it was very safe and a perfectlocation overall. Our best hosts ever! We give these guys a big thumbs up and our thanks for a fun and memorable weekend!
Vicliyw June 09, 2009
very nice host. my wife and I enjoy very much staying with you, and we had memorable time in your apartment, complementing our winter trip in NYC. Highly recommended for others.
Bobo October 28, 2008
We liked the location, the bed was comfortable, good breakfast and the hostess was most pleasant. The only downside is the location of the bed againts the window so you have the lights and sounds of the street.
